This federal advisory committee advises the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services and the Assistant Secretary for Health on a number of issues related to blood (and tissue) safety including, public health parameters related to the safety and availability of blood and blood products; broad public health, ethical, and legal issues related to transfusion and transplantation safety; and the effect of various economic factors on blood (and tissue) safety and availability (and infectious disease concerns for organ transplantation). The ACBTSA is a Federal Advisory Committee (i.e., a FACA) seated with industry representatives, physicians/scientists, consumer advocates, and federal ex-officio members from the HHS Agencies, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Veteran''s Affairs.

The HHS Arctic Working Group was organized in March 2015 by the Office of Global Affairs, Office of the HHS Secretary. The purpose of the Working Group is to (1) ensure coordination of deliverables to the Arctic Executive Steering Committee (AESC), which was established by Executive Order and held its first meeting in February, 2015; (2) provide an opportunity for cross-agency learning and communication regarding activities and projects in Arctic regions; and (3) facilitate future interagency collaborations.

This workgroup is a Public Health Energy Enterprise. The IPT working group provides an end-to-end vision of medical countermeasures needed for a particular threat type (e.g., anthrax, rad/nuc, etc.). The scope of their work includes setting requirements for the stockpiling of Medical Countermeasures (MCMs), MCM delivery, and dispensing and monitoring MCM development. The IPTs also advise the Enterprise Executive Committee as to threat- or capability-specific MCM priorities for improving preparedness, to inform leadership consideration of cross-threat prioritizations and strategic goal setting.
