Title Collaboration Type HHS Participating Agencies NIH Participating Institutes, Centers, and Offices Description
HRSA-Supplemental funding-NEXT STUDY Research Initiative HRSA NICHD In this IAA, HRSA supports NICHD in performance of the NEXT Generation Health study. This IAA provides needed supplemental funding and HRSA staff experience to conduct this longitudinal study of a nationally representative cohort of 10th grade students in the US. NEXT is a 7-year longitudinal assessment of a representative samples of US adolescent and young adults, starting when they are in 10th grade.
Human Nutrition Research Information Management (HNRIM) System Resource Development CDC, FDA, HRSA NIDDK Human Nutrition Research Information Management (HNRIM) is a searchable database of nutrition research and research training activities supported by the federal government and maintained by the NIH Division of Nutrition Research Coordination (DNRC).
ICARE: Interagency Collaborative to Advance Research in Epilepsy Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force CDC, FDA, HRSA, OS OD/OSP, FIC, NCATS, NHGRI, NHLBI, NIA, NIAAA, NIAMS, NIBIB, NICHD, NIDA, NIGMS, NIMH, NINDS, NINR The purpose of this group, which is led by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, is to increase communication among institutes and agencies sponsoring epilepsy-related research and explore opportunities for increased coordination.
Image-guided Interventional Therapeutics Research Initiative FDA CC, NCI This collaboration will lead to safer and more effective treatment planning and performance of image-guided interventions and therapeutic drug delivery. The results of all of these studies of image guided interventions and related technologies and the models used to study them will have a direct impact on the effectiveness and consistency of the FDA Center for Devices and Radiological Health''s (CDRH) preclinical review of device applications while meeting the primary research goal of optimizing image guided interventions and pre-clinical modeling of those interventions. Regulatory science and translational therapeutics have overlapping goals when it comes to drugs + devices combination therapies.
Improving Technical Standards and Molecular Tools for Probiotics Research and Development Research Initiative FDA NCCAM In 2008, the USDA Agricultural Service initiated a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NCCAM to exchange expertise in technology development and partner research initiatives to advance the field of probiotic biology and role in human health. The MOU consists of a five year plan defining common mission goals; expected benefits from the exchange of research expertise and resources; and demonstration projects based on NIH/NCCAM funded U01 cooperative agreements. The long-term goal of the MOU is to develop trans-agency networked initiatives. In 2012, the unique resources of USDA/ARS and the HMP investigators were successfully implemented as a parallel comparative biotechnologies validation and standardization prototype with targeted molecular approaches.
Industry-wide exposure assessment study of workers to carbon nanotubes and nanofibers Research Initiative CDC NIEHS This study will measure workplace exposures to carbon nanotubes and carbon nanofibers among a representative sample of US manufacturers and downstream users.
Influenza Vaccine Manufacturing Improvement Initiative Other CDC, FDA NIAID Influenza Vaccine Manufacturing Improvement Initiative is a research-based HHS interagency collaborative program with industry to 1) optimize influenza virus vaccine strains for production yield and 2) develop faster potency and sterility assays.
Institute of Medicine (IOM) Youth Concussions Project Other CDC NICHD, NINDS This project began from interest among members of the Institute of Medicine (IOM)/National Research Council (NRC) Board on Children, Youth, and Families (BCYF) in developing a new activity focused on the topic of sports concussions in youth. A series of conference calls were held in early March 2010 focused on the health and educational issues associated with concussions/mild brain trauma among school-ages populations. The IOM first wanted to explore the need for a workshop or study that could identify key research findings, examine current policies and programs, and offer informed guidance for clinical practices, sports management, and educational settings. Congressional staff have also expressed interest in encouraging IOM to conduct a research review in this area, comparable to the 2002 IOM workshop on the consequences of head impact in youth soccer. To date: 1) IOM has secured funds for "planning meeting" towards a workshop; 2) IOM invites NICHD to attend a planning for the planning meeting on October 1, 2010; and 3) IOM in interested is securing funds for workshop.
Institute on Systems Science and Health Training Initiative CDC OD/DPCPSI/OBSSR, NIBIB, NIDA This is a week long training institute for behavioral and social science research investigators to be introduced to systems science methodologies (agent-based modeling, system dynamic modeling, network analysis).
Inter-Agency Committee on Drug Control (ICDC) Other FDA, SAMHSA NIDA The Inter-Agency Committee on Drug Control (ICDC) serves to facilitate communication between government agencies, including NIDA, FDA, DEA, and SAMHSA regarding drug control policies and initiatives.
