The Interagency Committee on Disability Research (ICDR) is mandated to promote interagency coordination, collaboration, and communication. It must identify, assess, and seek to coordinate all Federal programs, activities, and projects, and plans for such programs, activities, and projects with respect to the conduct of research (including assistive technology research and research that incorporates the principles of universal design) related to rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities. The committee facilitates the effective exchange of information on disability and rehabilitation research activities among its member agencies. We coordinate activities that span the areas of assistive technology and universal design; medical rehabilitation; data and statistics; employment; health disparities, and education. The Interagency Subcommittee on Education (ISED), a subcommittee of ICDR, focuses on issues related to the education of persons with disabilities by collecting input from stakeholders to inform planning; identifying emerging research areas; assessing research gaps, synergies and duplications; and making recommendations to inform the federal research agenda.

The Interagency Subcommittee on Medical Rehabilitation (ISMR) is composed of representatives from federal agencies involved in disability and related research including rehabilitation research. After receiving input from targeted individuals, the Committee shall identify, assess, and seek to coordinate all Federal programs, activities, and projects, and plans for such programs, activities, and projects with respect to the conduct of research (including assistive technology research and research that incorporates the principles of universal design) related to rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities.

By Executive Order, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) established the Interagency Working Group on Neuroscience by action of the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) to foster collaboration across agencies and to coordinate Federal investments in neuroscience research. The Interagency Working Group on Neuroscience will coordinate activities in neuroscience research across the Federal government with a focus on the fundamental understanding of learning, brain development and plasticity, and brain health and recovery. The working group will enhance Federal efforts related to: improving our understanding of learning and cognition and applying that to improvements in education and other areas; improving our understanding of a variety of neurological conditions and injuries; and developing appropriate resources, tools, techniques, interventions, and therapies to assist in research, treatment, and recovery.
The NSTC working group includes members from the Departments of Agriculture, Defense, Education, Energy, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Justice, and Veterans Affairs, as well as the CIA, Environmental Protection Agency, NASA, the National Science Foundation, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

Interagency Registry for Mechanically Assisted Circulatory Support (INTERMACS) is a national registry for patients who are receiving mechanical circulatory support device therapy to treat advanced heart failure. This registry was devised as a joint effort of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, clinicians, scientists, and industry representatives, in conjunction with the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the United Network for Organ Sharing.

The International Experience and Technical Assistance (IETA) program is a developmental training program for Federal public health employees offered by the Center for Global Health at the CDC. Specifically, IETA is a professional development/technical assistance program that consists of three workshops and a supervised short-term overseas assignment with an international public health program. NIMH staff presented on professional experience with IETA program during a brown bag session for the CDC IETA program, Bethesda, MD, May 2012.
