Title Collaboration Type HHS Participating Agencies NIH Participating Institutes, Centers, and Offices Description
Multinational Influenza Seasonal Mortality Study (MISMS) Research Research Initiative OS FIC, NHLBI, NIAID, NLM MISMS was originally initiated to analyze national and global mortality patterns associated with influenza virus circulation. The focus of MISMS has since expanded to evaluate the interaction between the epidemiology, ecology, and evolutionary dynamics of influenza, including natural selection, reassortment, migration, and antigenic change. Multinational and bilateral collaborations developed by MISMS collect, analyze, and disseminate research findings through scientific publications, training workshops, and communication tools for investigators and decision-makers. Our research findings inform numerous national governments, multilateral organizations, and research stakeholders on interventions for both pandemic and seasonal influenza. To date, data have been acquired from more than 30 countries (representing ~3.2 billion people), resulting in over 100 publications.
Muscular Dystrophy Coordinating Committee (MDCC) Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force ACF, CDC, FDA, HRSA NIAMS, NHLBI, NICHD, NINDS Coordinate activities across NIH and with other Federal health programs and activities relevant to the various forms of muscular dystrophy.
Nanotechnology Characterization Laboratory Research Initiative FDA NCI, NIEHS The Nanotechnology Characterization Laboratory (NCL) performs and standardizes the preclinical characterization of nanomaterials intended for cancer therapeutics and diagnostics developed by researchers from academia, government, and industry. The NCL serves as a national resource and knowledge base for cancer researchers and facilitates the development and translation of nanoscale particles and devices for clinical applications.
National Academies Workshop: Emerging Technologies for Measuring Individual Exposomes Meeting/ Workshop ATSDR, CDC, FDA OD, NICHD, NIEHS This workshop will take a close look at emerging technologies that can be used to gather individual exposure information based upon external and internal measurements. Presentations and discussions will explore which of the technologies are “ready now” and which are still “emerging” for use in environmental health research. Particular attention will be paid to the relative advantages and disadvantages of external and internal measurements for characterizing individual exposomes and for performing EWAS (Environment-Wide Association Study). Exposomes are the measure of total exposures of an individual in a lifetime and how those exposures relate to heatlh. Recent proof-of-concept studies will be highlighted and bioinformatic tools will be discussed. This synthesis should inform researchers and policy makers about the critical roles that the exposome concept and new technologies can play in understanding the origins of human diseases.
National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention (NAASP) Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force AoA, CDC, HRSA, IHS, OS, OSG, SAMHSA NIMH The National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention (NAASP) is a public-private partnership for advancing the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention. The mission of the NAASP is to champion suicide prevention as a national priority; to catalyze efforts to implement high priority objectives of the NAASP; and to cultivate the resources needed to sustain progress. The NIMH Director is an ex officio member of the NAASP Executive Committee and Co-Chair of the NAASP Research Task Force. Additional NIMH staff serve on task forces pertaining to LGBT Youth, Military and Veterans, Youth in Justice Settings, and American Indian/Alaska Natives.
National Advisory Board for Medical Rehabilitation Research Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force CDC, CMS NICHD, CSR, NCI, NCATS, NHLBI, NIA, NIAMS, NIBIB, NIDCR, NINDS, NINR The Board meets twice a year to advise the directors of NIH, NICHD, and NCMRR on matters and policies relating to the Center''s programs. The Board comprises 12 members representing health and scientific disciplines related to medical rehabilitation and 6 members representing persons with disabilities.
National African-American Youth Initiative (NAAYI) Training Initiative OS NEI, NCATS, NIAAA, NIMH, NIMHD The NAAYI allows qualified African-American students nationwide to learn about careers in biomedical research and other professional opportunities within the government and the private sector. National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month Planning Public Education Campaign SAMHSA NIAAA, NIDA For more than 20 years, the National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month campaign has joined together millions of people to celebrate recovery and educate communities about addiction.  Supported by the efforts of the Planning Partners, Recovery Month is a fundamental part of raising awareness outside the treatment and recovery community of the potential for recovery from alcohol and drug addiction.
National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey Asthma Supplement - Interagency Agreement with CDC/National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) Health Survey AHRQ, CDC NIEHS, NHLBI, NIAID, NICHD Developed a survey of a national sample of primary care health providers and specialists likely to see asthma patients to gauge implementation of the NHLBI Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma.
National Asthma Control Initiative/National Asthma Education and Prevention Program Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force CDC, FDA NHLBI, NIAID, NIEHS The National Asthma Control Initiative (NACI) is a national effort to facilitate implementation of the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (NAEPP) Expert Panel Report-3 Asthma Guidelines implementation panel report. The NAEPP, which was initiated in 1989, seeks to enhance the quality of life for patients with asthma and decrease asthma-related morbidity and mortality by improving asthma awareness, diagnosis, and treatment.
