Title Collaboration Type HHS Participating Agencies NIH Participating Institutes, Centers, and Offices Description
National Evaluation of the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Evidence-Based Home Visiting Programs to Prevent Child Maltreatment (EBHV) Research Initiative ACF, HRSA OD NIH is contributing funds to support the planning and implementation of the national evaluation of the Supporting Evidence-Based Home Visiting Programs to Prevent Child Maltreatment (EBHV) initiative. ACF has funded Mathematica Policy Research and Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago to conduct a cross-site evaluation of the grantees'' programs. The primary purpose of the cross-site evaluation is to identify successful strategies for adopting, implementing, and sustaining high-quality home visiting programs to prevent child maltreatment.
National Forum for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force CDC NHLBI, NHGRI, NINDS The Forum was founded to implement a public health action plan to prevent heart disease and stroke.
National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) Health Survey ACF, CDC, FDA, OS NIA, NCI, NHLBI, NIDDK, OD A program of studies designed to assess the health and nutritional status of adults and children in the United States. The survey is unique in that it combines interviews and physical examinations.
National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) Components Research Initiative CDC NCI, NHLBI, NIA, NIDDK, OD For NHANES 2011-14, NCI proposed and coordinated funding from multiple NIH institutes and the Department of Defense for two components: a new technology physical activity monitor to be worn on the wrist and measurement of muscle strength using a hand-grip dynamometer. The wrist-worn accelerometer will provide the first objective measurement of sleep duration in a nationally representative sample, in addition to measuring physical activity movement. The muscle-strength measure will provide an indicator of total body strength for children, adults, and older adults who are NHANES participants.
National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES): Hearing Component Health Survey CDC NIDCD To provide support to the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), CDC for audiometry testing and related questions on hearing loss and noise exposure in adults ages 20 to 69 years in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), including hearing thresholds in each ear at 500, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 6000, and 8000 Hz.
National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2010-2012: Chemosenses Component Health Survey CDC NIDCD The purpose of this agreement is to provide funding for a collaborative effort with the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) to pilot test the chemosenses component in persons age 40 and older, and implement in the survey pending a successful pilot. The chemosenses component will consist of 1) household interview questions to define the prevalence of self-reported taste and smell disorders, and to identify risk factors and confounders for the analysis of the taste and smell exam data; 2) smell testing using two modified Pocket Smell Identification Tests, a "scratch and sniff'' test with 8 odorants; and 3) taste testing performed using small amounts of liquids that can be spit out afterwards. For Taste testing, the respondent will be asked both to identify and to rate the intensity of the stimulus.
National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey Oral Health Component: Health Survey CDC NIDCR Periodic oral health component of National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES); enamel fluorosis imaging study for inclusion in future NHANES
National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) Health Survey CDC NCI The National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) - started in 1957 - is a continuous, nationwide in-person survey of approximately 35,000 households, or about 87,500 persons, in the civilian non-institutionalized population. The NHIS over samples African-American and Hispanic respondents. NCI periodically sponsors a Cancer Control Supplement (CCS) which is administered to a randomly selected sample of 39,000 adults.
National Health Interview Survey (NHIS): Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) Data Collection Health Survey CDC NCCAM, NHLBI, NIA, NIMH, NINDS, OD The National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), carried out by the CDC, is a national survey that annually monitors the Nation’s health through personal interviews of a representative sample of the civilian, non-institutionalized U.S. population. Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) related questions are posed to about 30,000 randomly selected NHIS participants every 5 years. The data from the survey provides many fascinating insights into the types of CAM people use, the reasons for which they turn to CAM, and changes that have occurred since the last time CAM questions were included in the survey.
National Health Interview Survey (NHIS): Diabetes Components Health Survey CDC NIDDK NIDDK provides support for the development of the diabetes interview components and funding for collection of data.
