Healthy People 2020-Older Adults Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force AoA, CDC NIA This Healthy People 2020 topic is designed to develop an understanding of the health and health care needs and implications for older adults. The objectives overall will promote healthy outcomes in this population. The goal of these objectives is to improve the health, function, and quality of life of older adults.
HEALTHY study Research Initiative CDC NIDDK "HEALTHY is a 3-year study in 42 middle schools to determine if changes in school food services and physical education classes, along with classroom activities to promote behavior change, lower risk factors for type 2 diabetes in youth at high risk for the disease. Some risk factors for type 2 diabetes are modifiable, such as overweight and obesity, inactivity, high blood pressure, large waist size, and high blood levels of sugar and insulin. Other risk factors are not modifiable, such as family history and race or ethnicity.
Healthy Vision Month Public Education Campaign CDC NEI Each May, the NEI sponsors Healthy Vision Month which is national observance designed to elevate eye health as a priority for Americans. NIH worked closely with CDC for the 2010 observance and worked together to create a MMWR article, develop information for their Vision Initiative website and provided online banners and buttons linking to the HVM site and to the NEI for additional information.
Heart Attack, Blood Pressure, and Cholesterol Questions in the 2013 National Health Interview Survey. Health Survey CDC NHLBI The purpose of the collaborative activity is to support the development by the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) of measures that can be used to assess progress toward achieving Healthy People 2020 Heart Attack, Blood Pressure, and Cholesterol Objectives. The NIH and the National Center for Health Statistics collaborate on this activity.
Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) Standardization Program Research Initiative CDC NIDDK The purpose of the Program is to achieve standardization and reliability in measurement of HbA1c, a component of blood that is a good surrogate measure of long-term blood glucose control and, as such, reflects risk of diabetic complications.
Hemoglobinopathy Uniform Medical Language Ontology Project Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force AHRQ, CDC, FDA, HRSA, OS NHLBI, NIAMS, NICHD, NLM, OD The purpose of the project is to create a uniform medical language ontology for hemoglobinopathies. The ontology would be a resource for federal programs and extramural communities (e.g., researchers) to use when developing data systems that incorporate data elements related to hemoglobinopathies.
HHS Advisory Committee for the Elimination of Tuberculosis Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force AHRQ, CDC, FDA, HRSA, IHS, OS, SAMHSA NIAID The Committee advises and makes recommendations to the Secretary of Health and Human Services, the Assistant Secretary for Health, and the Director, CDC, regarding the elimination of tuberculosis. Specifically, the Council makes recommendations regarding policies, strategies, objectives, and priorities; addresses the development and application of new technologies; and reviews the extent to which progress has been made toward eliminating tuberculosis.
HHS Autism Awareness Month Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force ACF, CDC, CMS, HRSA, OS, SAMHSA NIMH NIMH collaborated with the HHS Office of the Assistant Secretary of Health to support activities for the National Autism Awareness Month. These activities included hosting a special seminar on autism that was made available to the public via webcast; releasing the annual Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee Summary of Advances in Autism Spectrum Disorder Research; and hosting a meeting of the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC) with guest speakers presenting on HHS autism programs. In addition, the NIMH Director, other NIMH staff experts on autism, and the IACC participated in an Autism Awareness Month Conference at the White House.
HHS Behavioral Health Coordinating Committee Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force ACF, AoA, AHRQ, CDC, CMS, FDA, HRSA, IHS, OS, OSG, SAMHSA NIAAA, NIDA, NIMH This is an HHS-wide committee to coordinate and collaborate on behavioral health issues. NIMH and the ASPA are co-leads of the subcommittee for communications.
HHS Behavioral Health Coordinating Committee Subcommittee for Communications Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force SAMHSA OD, NIDA The communications subcommittee is developing tools to enhance cross-HHS communications on behavioral health with other federal agencies and the public. Initiatives include platforms for data sharing and dissemination across HHS agencies, and establishing common language for behavioral health
