This initiative aims to improve the lives of Americans suffering from kidney disease, expand options for American patients, and reduce healthcare costs. The initiative provides specific solutions to deliver on three goals: fewer patients developing kidney failure, fewer Americans receiving dialysis in dialysis centers, and more kidneys available for transplant. NIDDK promotes an integrated health system model of team-based clinical care based on the pragmatic experience of the IHS; Kidney Disease Program. NIDDK has developed new clinical tools and educational programs that improve the care of people with kidney disease in primary care settings. NIDDK works in collaboration with government, nonprofit, and health care organizations to raise awareness about screening for individuals at risk for kidney disease; educate individuals about how to manage their disease; provide information, training, and tools that help health care providers; and support important health systems changes. |

The Biological Testing Branch (BTB) and other branches of NCI's Developmental Therapeutics Program (DTP) have extensive experience growing, culturing, drug testing/screening human patient derived organoid cell cultures as part of our lead involvement with the Patient Derived Models Repository (PDMR). In late 2024. Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) investigators approached our Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD) associate director asking for guidance regarding methods for growing and screening organoid cultures for their MASCOT (Manufacturing Agile and SCalable Organoid Tumor models) program. In 2025, DTP will gather involved parties for a series of meetings where NCI shares guidance, methodologies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and our experience with robotic high throughput organoid screening. We will also discuss possible collaborative activities with ARPA-H to not waste time and resources duplicating efforts. |
