The purpose of the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics (NCVHS) Workgroup on Timely and Strategic Action to Inform ICD-11 Policy is to gather information and provide recommendations to HHS regarding the adoption and implementation of the International Classification of Diseases, 11th Revision (ICD-11) as a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) code set. NCVHS finds that immediate action is needed to prepare for a timely transition to ICD-11 and potentially avoid some of the challenges faced during the transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10. As an advisory committee to the Secretary, NCVHS intends for this project to support HHS in leading the U.S. in preparing for policy and implementation decisions regarding ICD-11. NLM contributes by researching the feasibility of replacing ICD-10-CM with ICD-11 for morbidity coding. Additionally, NLM provides subject matter expertise on ICD-11 and medical terminologies. |
