The Survey of Federal Funds for Research and Development (R&D) is the primary source of information about federal funding for R&D in the United States. The survey is an annual census completed by the federal agencies that conduct R&D programs. Actual data are collected for the fiscal year just completed; estimates are obtained for the current fiscal year.https://ncses.nsf.gov/surveys/federal-funds-research-development/2022-2…

This subcommittee of the National Science and Technology Council's Committee on Technology is responsible for coordinating the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI). The NNI was established in 2001 to coordinate federal research and development in nanotechnology by providing a vision of the long-term benefits and opportunities offered by nanotechnology and acting as a locus for communication, cooperation, and collaboration between federal agencies involved in nanotechnology research and development. In 2016, the NSET updated its strategic plan to reflect the fact that nanotechnology is now a broadly enabling technology, not simply an area of research at the nanoscale. The new strategic plan outlines four goals: (1) advance a world-class nanotechnology research and development program, (2) foster the transfer of new technologies into products for commercial and public benefit, (3) develop and sustain educational resources, a skilled workforce, and a dynamic infrastructure and toolset to advance nanotechnology, and (4) support responsible development of nanotechnology.

The purpose of the SCPI is to establish a strong, unified, interagency body to manage, integrate, and ensure accountability for U.S. pandemic preparedness science and technology (S&T) goals. SCPI will develop, update, and coordinate execution of pandemic preparedness S&T priorities to accelerate and drive scientific progress and technological maturation. Annually, SCPI will assess and publicly report on mission progress- including by drawing on independent scientific panels - and encourage and support the execution of periodic exercises to evaluate national pandemic preparedness by deploying national capabilities. The SCPI can also be a focal point for coordinating federal pandemic preparedness S&T priorities with the global S&T community, including in support of the 100 Days Mission and other relevant U.S. and international scientific initiatives.
