The NIH is collaborating with Childhood Obesity Research Demonstration (CORD) project officers to 1) develop a symposium proposal for the Obesity Society (TOS) annual meeting coming up in November 2013 and 2) to discuss Childhood Obesity Research and the NHLBI/NICHD/OBSSR funded study- COPTR (childhood obesity prevention and treatment research). The proposal for the TOS meeting, developed by COPTR and CORD (NHLBI and CDC staff) is for a collaborative symposium on childhood obesity research with the goal of advancing health and well being of America’s children.

This project is related to development of a repository and search tool for identification of Common Data Elements (CDE) for Patient-Centered Outcomes Research. Led by NLM, a work-group of the Trans-NIH BioMedical Informatics Coordinating Committee (BMIC) and others are working to promote data sharing and reuse and use of electronic health record (EHR)- derived data among the PCOR community supported by NIH and other Federal organizations. Work has produced a portal of NIH projects that use CDEs and, with the assistance of funding to develop data infrastructure to promote patient-centered outcomes research (OS PCOR Trust Fund), will contribute to development of a search, retrieval, and repository mechanism that will support and reflect the standards work of the S&I Framework Structured Data Capture Initiative.

The NIH Comparative Effectiveness Research Coordinating Committee (CER CC) was established in 2008 at the request of the NIH Director. Its members include NIH Institute and Center (IC) Directors and high level senior staff. Its charge is to coordinate ongoing CER initiatives across the agency, develop a long term research vision for CER, implement collaborative initiatives with sister agencies, determine appropriate definitions, policies and guidance relative to CER, administer the CER funds awarded through the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA), and track the outcomes of those projects. The CER CC has organized meetings with AHRQ, CMS, the VA, FDA and Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology to discuss potential strategic collaborations.
