Biomarkers of Nutrition for Development (BOND) Meetings Meeting/ Workshop CDC, FDA, HRSA, OS NICHD, FIC, NCI, NHLBI, NIDDK, OD/DPCPSI/ODP NICHD held six conferences concerning an initiative entitled Biomarkers of Nutrition for Development (BOND). The goal of the BOND initiative is to provide information and service to support the entire nutrition research and global health enterprise and to include core elements of discovery, development and delivery/implementation. Each BOND conference focused on one of the six case study nutrients - Vitamin A, Iron, Zinc, Folate, Iodine and Vitamin B12. These nutrients were selected by the BOND Steering Committee based on their perceived public health importance and unique challenges related to the biomarker agenda.
Bioresource Development, Validation Tools, and Integrating HTS Technology Standards in CAM Product Use in Children Research Initiative CDC, HRSA, SAMHSA NCCAM, NICHD Collaborative efforts between the FDA/CBER and the NIH/NCCAM for substantiating health benefit claims for probiotics under INDs were placed in the framework of U01 Cooperative Agreements that began in 2008. The successful evaluation of the initiative has recently developed into an invitation to develop a Memorandum of Understanding to promote resource sharing and exchange of research expertise; development of demonstration project(s); and the initiation of trans-agency research initiatives focused on the integration of advanced molecular technologies that lead to harmonization standards and improved diagnostics for safety and substantiation of the health benefits of probiotic interventions. In 2011, a collaboration with FDA/CFSAN was initiated to expand the validation tool. In 2012, a Materials Transfer Agreement [MTA] was approved and the FDA/CFSAN received the entire data collection to undergo testing employing their novel microarray multi-loci sequence testing system [MLST].

Cancer Control and Cancer Survivorship in the Sister Studies Health Survey CDC NIEHS A workshop was held focusing on research priorities for understanding breast cancer in young women, and 2 surveys were conducted within NIEHS'' Sister Study: 1) looking at high risk women without breast cancer to understand the impact of breast cancer in a family member on women and their daughters, including screening and lifestyle behaviors; 2) survey of young breast cancer survivors to identify issues related to treatment and follow-up, barriers to care, quality of life, discrimination, and other factors post-diagnosis. The survey was also focused on special needs of young survivors including fertility.
Cancer Control P.L.A.N.E.T. Resource Development AHRQ, CDC, SAMHSA NCI Cancer control planners, program staff, and researchers have the same goals: to reduce cancer risk, the number of new cancer cases, and the number of deaths from cancer, as well as enhance the quality of life for cancer survivors. While many share the same goals, all do not have easy access to resources that can facilitate the transfer of evidence-based research findings into practice. This Cancer Control P.L.A.N.E.T. portal provides access to data and resources that can help planners, program staff, and researchers to design, implement and evaluate evidence-based cancer control programs.
Carrier Screening Work Group Other HRSA NICHD The purpose of the committee is to make recommendations to the Secretary Advisory Committee for Heritable Disorders in infants and children related to screenable disorder.
