Development of the HHS Framework for Guiding Funding Decisions about Research Proposals with the Potential for Generating Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza H5N1 Viruses that are Transmissible among Mammals by Respiratory Droplets Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force CDC, FDA, OS OD/OSP, NIAID Development of HHS policy regarding the funding of research with the potential for generating HPAI H5N1 viruses that are transmissible among mammals by respiratory droplets. Also began planning an international consultative workshop to solicit international and multidisciplinary perspectives on the issue of HPAI H5N1 gain-of-function research and the framework for guiding funding decisions on proposals (submitted to HHS and its operating divisions) that have the potential for generating HPAI H5N1 viruses that are transmissible among mammals by respiratory droplets.
DHHS Advisory Council on Blood Stem Cell Transplantation Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force CDC, FDA, HRSA NHLBI, NCI, NIAID The working group seeks to address questions and challenges in stem cell transplantation, identify barriers to diverse donor populations, and identify any existing safety gaps.
DHHS Health Care Personnel Influenza Vaccination Interagency Working Group Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force OS CC This committee is charged with developing strategies to improve the fraction of healthcare professionals who are vaccinated with the influenza vaccine.
DHHS Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC) Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force OS CC This committee serves as the major policy advisory committee in the nation for healthcare epidemiology.
DHHS Steering Committee for the Prevention of Healthcare-Associated Infections Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force OS CC This committee is charged with developing a national action plan for addressing the important problem of healthcare-associated infections.
Diabetes Mellitus Interagency Coordinating Committee (DMICC) Other AHRQ, CDC, CMS, FDA, HRSA, IHS, OS OD/OSP, CSR, NCATS, NCCAM, NEI, NHGRI, NHLBI, NIA, NIAAA, NIAID, NIBIB, NICHD, NIDA, NIDCD, NIDCR, NIDDK, NIEHS, NIGMS, NIMH, NIMHD, NINDS, NINR, NLM The Diabetes Mellitus Interagency Coordinating Committee (DMICC) facilitates cooperation, communication, and collaboration on diabetes among these government entities. DMICC meetings, held several times a year, help members identify emerging issues and opportunities and develop ways in which different government components can work together and build upon each other’s expertise and resources. This approach helps ensure that federal diabetes activities are coordinated and not duplicated, as well as stimulates collaborations where appropriate.
Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) and Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study (DPPOS) Research Initiative CDC, IHS NIDDK, NCATS, NCMHD, NEI, NHLBI, NIA, NICHD The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) showed that lifestyle change or metformin delay the development of type 2 diabetes. The Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study is studying the long term effect of diet and exercise and the diabetes medication, metformin, on the delay of type 2 diabetes in participants of the DPP.
Diabetic Retinopathy Clinical Research Network Research Initiative OS NEI, NIDDK The Diabetic Retinopathy Clinical Research Network (DRCR.net) is a collaborative network dedicated to facilitating multicenter clinical research of diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular edema and associated conditions. The DRCR.net supports the identification, design, and implementation of multicenter clinical research initiatives focused on diabetes-induced retinal disorders. Principal emphasis is placed on clinical trials, but epidemiologic outcomes and other research may be supported as well. The network is funded by the NEI, and co-funded by OS, through NIDDK, with the Special Funding Program for Type 1 Diabetes Research.
Diagnosis, Treatment, and Medical Service Utilization in Medicare and Medicaid Population Research Initiative CMS CC CMS and NIH CC/RMD agree to collaborate in data-sharing for research the results of which may be helpful to improve medical-service quality, utilization, and effectiveness for Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries. CMS will provide electronic data to NIH CC/RMD who will perform analyses that are agreed to by both parties.
Dietary Guidelines for Children 0-2 Years: Exploring the Evidence Meeting/ Workshop OS NICHD The Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) are issued jointly every five years by HHS and USDA but traditionally have focused on Americans ages 2 and above. Specific recommendations for infants and toddlers have not been addressed since the 1985 edition, although some general guidance was included in the 1990 DGA. The National Institute for Child Health and Human Development, the USDA, and ODPHP have developed a project intended to help identify questions and begin scoping the scientific literature related to dietary (not nutrient) recommendations for ages 0-2 to build an analytic framework for a systematic evidence based review. Two meetings were held, one early in the process consisting of members of 4 workgroups to understand the project and clarify issues (request already submitted). The following workshop, culminated in publication of the workshop proceedings in a peer reviewed journal.
