Title Collaboration Type HHS Participating Agencies NIH Participating Institutes, Centers, and Offices Description
Dietary Guidelines for Mothers and Infants Research Initiative OS NICHD This Intra-agency Agreement (IAA) is to support the Project "Dietary Guidelines for Mother and Infants 0-2 years: Exploring the Evidence."
Dietary Supplements Ingredient Database (DSID) Research Initiative CDC, FDA OD/DPCPSI/ODP, NCI The database provides statistical estimates—based on chemical analysis—of the nutrient content of selected ingredients in dietary supplements, compared with label-reported ingredient levels. Currently the Dietary Supplements Ingredient Database (DSID) provides estimated levels of 18 vitamin and mineral ingredients derived from analytical data for 115 representative unspecified adult multivitamin/multimineral supplements (MVMs). Additional dietary supplement ingredients will be included in future releases of the database.
Digital Quantitation of Plasma Cells in Marrow Biopsies Research Initiative FDA CC Collaboration with M Choi, WC Cheng, and A Badano from the Imaging Physics Lab, Division of Imaging and Applied Mathematics, Office of Science and Engineering Labs, Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH), FDA. The project consists of developing software and establish validations for the automated determination of marrow cellularity and enumeration of plasma cells identified by immunohistochemistry (IHC) using a CD138 antibody. This initial effort should serve as proof of principle for a broader plan to utilize IHC-based automated quantitation of different types of cells in bone marrow core biopsies for diagnosis, prognosis and therapy monitoring of marrow disorders.
Domestic and International Adoption: Strategies to Improve Behavioral Health Outcomes for Youth and Their Families Meeting/ Workshop ACF, CDC, SAMHSA NIMH On August 29-30, 2012 staff from the NIMH partnered with representatives from other NIH Institutes, SAMHSA, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) to plan and coordinate a meeting focused on the behavioral health needs of adopted youth. Researchers, practitioners, policymakers, as well as family and youth leaders were brought together in an interdisciplinary forum to discuss several key areas, including: the convergence/divergence of experience of internationally and domestically adopted youth with respect to behavioral health concerns; outcomes and trajectories for adopted youth; interventions and services available to address behavioral health needs and/or gaps in meeting the needs of this population; and the challenges and opportunities moving forward.
Domestic Scheduling to Control New Drugs of Abuse, with NIDA-Funded Testing Conducted in Support of DEA Scheduling Recommendations to the FDA Research Initiative FDA, OS NIDA HHS depends upon NIDA contracts to generate the in vitro and animal behavioral data that are required to support the domestic scheduling of new street drugs. The long-standing agreement is that DEA provides the drugs (or the funds to cover drug synthesis) to NIDA, and NIDA covers the cost of pharmacological testing.
Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer’s Network (DIAN): International network for the identification, evaluation, and follow up of families with early onset dominantly inherited Alzheimer’s Disease Research Initiative FDA NIA To set up an international network consisting of a consortium of scientific investigators that will have the responsibility to identify, recruit, evaluate, and follow-up individuals from families with early onset dominantly inherited Alzheimer’s disease [i.e., families with the amyloid precursor protein (APP), presenilin 1 (PS1), and presenilin 2 (PS2) mutations or duplications or others still to be discovered].
Drug Induced Liver Injury Network (DILIN) Other FDA NIDDK Both a prospective and retrospective database containing cases of drug-induced liver disease, Drug Induced Liver Injury Network (DILIN) is funded by a cooperative agreement and includes eight clinical centers and a central data coordinating center. One of the goals of DILIN is to establish a database of well-characterized cases of drug-induced liver injury along with serum, DNA, and tissue samples that will facilitate research on the mechanisms of hepatic injury due to drugs. Cases of liver injury due to herbal medications are also included. DILIN will develop standardized definitions of drug-induced liver disease and standardization of scoring systems for causality. Three employees of FDA serve as ad hoc members on the committee overseeing the network activities.
Durability of Nanoscale Cellulose Fibers in Artificial Human Lung Fluids Research Initiative CDC NIEHS The purpose of this study is to investigate the in vitro durability of nanocellulose materials in artificial lung fluids. Data generated from this study will be used to inform larger studies that will investigate the toxicity of different nanocellulose materials
Dynamics of Health, Aging, and Body Composition (Health ABC) Research Initiative CDC NIA, NCCAM, NIDDK Major objectives relate to observations that change in body composition in old age, particularly the increase in body fat and the decline in lean mass and bone mineral, represent a common pathway by which multiple diseases contribute to disability. There are many unanswered questions regarding the patterns and health impact of changes in weight and body composition in old age. Weight generally increases over the lifetime until late middle age, then tends to decrease into old age with changes in muscle, fat and bone. It has been postulated that the accelerated loss of muscle and strength in old age contributes to the onset of disability. Studies of weight and its relationship to mortality in older persons have yielded contradictory findings, leading to controversy regarding public health recommendations for weight in old age. Few studies have examined weight-related morbidity in old age, especially among African-Americans.
Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Meeting/ Workshop CDC NIDCD Teleconference sponsored by CDC.
