The Medical Education Partnership Initiative (MEPI) supports foreign institutions in Sub-Saharan African countries that receive PEPFAR support and their partners to develop or expand and enhance models of medical education. These models are intended to support PEPFAR’s goal of increasing the number of new health care workers by 140,000, strengthen medical education systems in the countries in which they exist, and build clinical and research capacity in Africa as part of a retention strategy for faculty of medical schools and clinical professors.

The National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NAMCS) is a national survey designed to meet the need for objective, reliable information about the provision and use of ambulatory medical care services in the United States. Findings are based on a sample of visits to non-federal employed office-based physicians who are primarily engaged in direct patient care. In 2012, a series of questions were added to assess what types of complementary health practices are used physician offices and the referral patterns to complementary health care providers such a chiropractors and acupuncturists.

The mission of the NIH Bone Marrow Stromal Cell (BMSC) Transplantation is to develop clinical grade bone marrow stromal cells for use in clinical trials that utilizes the ability of these cells to exert immunomodulatory and immunosuppressive effects that are beneficial for the treatment of a number of diseases and disorders, and to provide assistance to clinical investigators in the preparation of regulator documents for institutional review boards (IRBs) and the FDA.

The Trans-NIH Rare Diseases Working Group was established in 2004. This working group assists the Office of Rare Diseases Research in carrying out its mission by addressing a set of goals that build on partnerships Office of Rare Diseases Research (ORDR) has developed with NIH Institutes, Centers, and Offices, HHS agencies, and other organizations that address issues in rare diseases research such as identifying research opportunities and advances in rare diseases research; promoting coordination and cooperation in joint research efforts among the NIH institutes, centers, and offices and the research entities they support. Trans-NIH Rare Diseases Working Group was established in 2004.
