The objective of the State Cancer Profiles Web site is to provide a system to characterize the cancer burden in a standardized manner in order to motivate action, integrate surveillance into cancer control planning, characterize areas and demographic groups, and expose health disparities. The focus is on cancer sites for which there are evidence based control interventions. Interactive graphics and maps provide visual support for deciding where to focus cancer control efforts.

Strategic Multisite Initiative for the Identification, Linkage and Engagement in Care of Youth with Undiagnosed HIV Infection (SMILE in CARING for YOUTH)

NICHD, NIDA, NIMH
|
The Adolescent Medicine Trials Network for HIV/AIDS Interventions (ATN) was awarded grant money to expand their project of increasing availability of HIV testing for adolescents 12-24 and the provision of adolescent-focused healthcare services for those adolescents who are diagnosed with HIV infection. The project''s expansion includes all the ATN sites across the US. NICHD is collecting data to evaluate the effectiveness of adolescent oriented linkage to care services for the HIV infected adolescents. This collaboration has the potential to improve the health of American youth, both by identifying those with undiagnosed HIV and bringing them into adolescent-friendly treatment programs and by reducing the chances of them further spreading the virus to others. There is a committee "SMILE in CARING for YOUTH that monitors activities related to NIH-CDC collaboration on enhancing treatment and retention in care of HIV youth.

NLM is collaborating with the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) and AHRQ under the auspices of ONC''s S&I Framework. This initiative will develop and validate a standards-based data architecture so that a structured set of data can be accessed from EHRs and be stored for merger with comparable data for other purposes, including: electronic Case Report Form (eCRF) used for clinical research including Patient Centered Outcomes Research (PCOR); Incident Report used for patient safety reporting leveraging AHRQ ‘Common Formats’; and Surveillance Case Report Form used for public health reporting of infectious diseases.

Production of edema toxin by B. anthracis is a key pathogenic component in the hemodynamic compromise and resistance to conventional hemodynamic support leading to death during all severe forms of anthrax infection, including inhalational disease. The aim of the present collaboration was to define employing a large animal model the efficacy of conventional hemodynamic support for anthrax edema toxin induced shock and to determine whether the use of protective antigen directed monoclonal antibody (PA-mAb) can increase the efficacy of conventional hemodynamic support.

This subcommittee of the National Science and Technology Council''s Committee on Technology is responsible for coordinating the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI). The NNI was established in 2001 to coordinate federal research and development in nanotechnology by providing a vision of the long-term benefits and opportunities offered by nanotechnology and acting as a locus for communication, cooperation, and collaboration between federal agencies involved in nanotechnology research and development. In 2011, the NSET developed a strategic plan that encompasses a comprehensive nanotechnology R&D initiative built on shared goals, priorities, and strategies that complement agency-specific missions and activities.
