Reciprocal Educational and Training Partnerships between FDA/CDER and the NIH Clinical Center Training Initiative FDA CC, NCI, NIAID, NIMH, NINDS This activity is sponsored by the Clinical Pharmacology Program, Office of Clinical Research Training and Medical Education (OCRTME) at the NIH Clinical Center and it consists of elective rotations at the Office of Clinical Pharmacology (OCP) and the Office of New Drugs (OND)- FDA/CDER for NIH staff with a primary focus on clinical fellows and research fellows who expressed an interest in learning more about FDA regulatory sciences applicable to drug development research. Rotating fellows are mentored by FDA staff on the required elements of an Investigational New Drug (IND) application and the key elements of the FDA review process from a regulatory perspective. This program also established a mechanism for FDA scientific reviewers at the OCP to rotate at the NIH Clinical Center and to interact with members of a clinical research team, thus acquiring a better perspective on clinical research protocol implementation and the requirements of an Institutional Review Board (IRB) at the NIH.
Reentry Research Network Other ACF, SAMHSA NIDA, OD/DPCPSI/OBSSR This is a subgroup that reports to the Federal Interagency Reentry Council. The purpose of this group is to bring together numerous federal agencies to make communities safer, assist those returning from prison and jail in becoming productive, tax-paying citizens, and save taxpayer dollars by lowering the direct and collateral costs of incarceration.
REGARDS Study - Occupational Supplement Health Survey CDC NINDS The goal of this study is to identify the extent to which occupational exposure contributes to cardiovascular disease in a racially diverse, population-based sample, with emphasis on health disparities secondary to racial/ethnic characteristics.
Regional Grant Writing and Scientific Peer Review Workshop Meeting/ Workshop CDC NCI, CSR, FIC, NHLBI, NIAID, NICHD, NIDA, NIMH, NINDS, OD/DPCPSI/OAR, OD/DPCPSI/ODP The Center for Global Health of the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI) in collaboration with the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) will hold regional grant writing and peer review workshop to encourage investigators to address public health issues through research. The objectives of the workshop are to (1) increase the participation of scientists from mid- to low-resource countries in the research grant process; (2) develop strategies for sustainable research support and collaborations, and; (3) use competitive research as a tool to address global health issues.
Registry of Patient Registries (RoPR) Project Resource Development AHRQ OD/OSP, NIDDK, NLM The AHRQ Registry of Patient Registries (RoPR) is a system for tracking “patient registries” that is compatible with the ClinicalTrials.gov clinical study registry operated by NLM. Since November 2012, data providers registering “observational studies” at ClinicalTrials.gov can indicate (1) whether the studies also meet AHRQ’s definition of a “patient registry” and, (2) provide more detailed (optional) information about the patient registry using the separate RoPR Data Entry System. Users of the ClinicalTrials.gov Web site are able to search for registered observational studies that are identified as patient registries. In the future, users will also be able to link from a record at ClinicalTrials.gov to the corresponding record containing a detailed description of the patient registry at RoPR, if available. As part of this project, broad consultations were carried out with relevant groups. NIDDK staff participated extensively in these consultations.
Research in diabetes mellitus, its complications, and obesity Research Initiative IHS NIDDK The objectives are to identify the determinants and understand the progression of type 2 diabetes, obesity, and other chronic diseases in Pima Indians.
Research on Research Integrity Program Research Initiative OS NIEHS, NIDCR Handle the administrative responsibilities for soliciting, reviewing, funding, and managing the RRI program in collaboration with the DHHS Office of Research Integrity (ORI).
Research to Improve Health and Longevity of People with Severe Mental Illness Meeting/ Workshop AHRQ, CMS, SAMHSA NIMH, NCI, NHLBI, NIDA, NIDDK In September 2012, NIMH convened a meeting to assess the state of the science in preventing and treating medical comorbidities in people with severe mental illness (SMI) and identify the most critically needed research to reduce premature mortality in this vulnerable group. NIMH brought together representatives from other NIH Institutes, who also served on the meeting’s planning group, along with leading researchers on medical comorbidities in people with SMI and on prevention and treatment within the general population for diabetes, heart disease, tobacco use, and drug abuse. They were joined by policy leaders, advocates for people with SMI; community mental health center leaders and representatives from key federal agencies, including SAMHSA and AHRQ.
Research-Tested Intervention Program Database (RTIPs) Resource Development SAMHSA NCI Research-Tested Intervention Program Database (RTIPs) is a searchable database of cancer control interventions and program materials and is designed to provide program planners and public health practitioners easy and immediate access to research-tested materials.
Respiratory/Asthma Question in the 2013 National Health Interview Survey Health Survey CDC NHLBI The purpose of the collaborative activity is support development and implementation by the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) of measures that could be used to assess progress towards achieving Healthy People 2020 respiratory/asthma objectives. The NHLBI and the National Center for Health Statistics collaborate on this activity.
