Title Collaboration Type HHS Participating Agencies NIH Participating Institutes, Centers, and Offices Description
National Survey of Family Growth Health Survey ACF, CDC NICHD The National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG) gathers information on family life, marriage and divorce, pregnancy, infertility, use of contraception, and men''s and women''s health. The survey results are used by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and others to plan health services and education programs, and to do statistical studies of families, fertility, and health.
Native American Research Center for Health (NARCH) program Research Initiative AHRQ, HRSA, IHS, OS OD/OSP, CSR, NCATS, NCCAM, NCI, NHGRI, NHLBI, NIAAA, NIAID, NIAMS, NIDA, NIDCR, NIDDK, NIGMS, NIMH, NIMHD, OD/DPCPSI/OBSSR Native American Research Center for Health (NARCH) is a grant program that provides funds to enhance research, research infrastructure and training among American Indian and Alaska native programs and academic partners. This NIH-wide program supports partnerships between American Indian (AI), Alaska Native (AN), or Tribally-based organizations and institutions that conduct intensive academic-level biomedical, behavioral and health services research in an effort to build a research infrastructure of core components for capacity building and to reduce health disparities in AI/AN communities. This funding mechanism develops opportunities for conducting research, research training and faculty development to meet the needs of American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities. As a developmental process, Tribes and Tribal Organizations are able to build a research infrastructure, including a core component for capacity building and the possibility of reducing the many health disparities so prevalent in AI/AN communities.
Natural Experiments and Effectiveness Studies in the Prevention and Control of Diabetes Research Initiative CDC NIDDK This project will focus on population-targeted interventions that health systems, communities, and governments can undertake to reduce the incidence of diabetes and its complications. This project will also strengthen the capacity of CDC and NIDDK to conduct vital health services and health policy research related to diabetes prevention and care.
Natural History Study of Monoclonal Gammopathy of Undetermined Significance (MGUS) and Smoldering Myeloma (SMM) Research Initiative CDC NCI The purpose of this study is to test the stored serum specimens of Air Force Health Study (AFHS) participants for Monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) and microRNAs using sensitive state-of-the-art laboratory methods. The serum specimens of the AFHS participants who are selected for this study will be retrieved and shipped to NCI. NCI will perform the tests. NIH/NCI will obtain IRB approval of the study protocol and analyze the serum sample to detect and quantify M-protein and expression levels of a panel of microRNAs.
NCI / FDA- Federal Investigator Registry of Biomedical Information Research Data (FIREBIRD) Resource Development FDA NCI An agreement has been reached by the FDA and the NCI to manage and share information about clinical investigators using the Federal Investigator Registry of Biomedical Information Research Data (FIREBIRD) system. Drug makers are encouraged to also submit information about investigators electronically to the new registry. FIREBIRD is the first module of an expected suite of software programs that will comprise a system called the Clinical Research Information Exchange (CRIX). CRIX is intended to support the biomedical and biopharmaceutical research community by streamlining the document and data exchange process. The resulting reduction of paperwork is expected to increase the efficiency and lower the cost of conducting clinical trials.
NCI/FDA Memorandum of Understanding for Proteomics Research Initiative FDA NCI The purpose of this MOU is to create a framework to foster scientific and programmatic collaborations. The collaborations envisioned by this MOU involve proteomics science and technology applications such as instrument/technology validation, informatics, biological sample preparation, diagnostics, and discovery and validation of biomarkers for cancer development, therapeutics, and response. This MOU sets forth the basic principles under which the agencies intend to work together to foster partnership in: research and education; the exchange of ideas, information, and data; the development and use of proteomics technologies that may be used by the NCI and other sponsors in clinical applications.
Nested case-control study of lung cancer and diesel exhaust among non-metal miners Research Initiative CDC NCI A retrospective cohort mortality and nested case-control study of about 12,315 non-metal miners (278,041 person-years) to investigate risk of lung cancer in relation to quantitative measures of exposure to diesel exhaust.
Network for Improvement of Access to Treatment (NIATx) Research Initiative SAMHSA NIDA, NIMHD Research grant focused on helping drug abuse treatment organizations develop practice improvement procedures to get patients enrolled in treatment.
Neural Interfaces Conference Meeting/ Workshop FDA NIBIB, CSR, NEI, NIA, NICHD, NIDCD, NINDS The Neural Interfaces research community consists of investigators, supported by grants or contracts, who are working in areas that include functional neuromuscular/electrical stimulation, auditory prosthesis, cortical prosthesis, neuromodulation, microelectrode array technology, brain computer/machine interfaces and other related areas. Conferences were held in 2010 and 2012.
Newborn Drug Development Planning committee Other FDA NICHD, NHLBI, NLM Primary responsibility for administering, contracting, and monitoring studies to develop Investigational New Drug (IND) application data for potential label modification.
