The ICCVAM is administered by the National Toxicology Program Interagency Center for the Evaluation of Alternative Toxicological Methods ( NICEATM), a component of the NIEHS. NICEATM in collaboration with ICCVAM and its international collaborators in Japan, the EU, and Canada conducts research studies to evaluate the scientific validity of proposed new safety testing methods. NICEATM and ICCVAM also conduct international scientific peer review evaluations of proposed safety methods, and forward recommendations on scientific valid methods to Federal agencies, which must adopt the proposed methods or provide a basis for not adopting it. NICEATM and ICCVAM also organize scientific workshops to evaluate the current state of the science on a wide range of toxicological and other safety endpoints.
