Fogarty International Center (FIC), National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention''s (CDC) National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC), and the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves are supporting Global Environmental and Occupational Health (GEOHealth) Hubs. These are regional hubs based at low- or middle-income country (LMIC) institutions focused on collaborative research, data management, training, curriculum development, and policy support around high-priority local, national, and regional environmental and occupational health threats. The expectation is that GEOHealth Hubs will become the lead resources for environmental and occupational health, attract and retain the best talent in the region, and provide the scientific evidence for policy formulation. Together all regional hubs supported will form the GEOHealth Network, a platform for coordinated environmental and occupational health research and research training activities. FIC and its partners are supporting linked U2R and U01 awards to US and LMIC institutions, respectively. All partners contribute funds to the program.

Cancer incidence and mortality are rising rapidly worldwide, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. There is an overwhelming need for countries to adopt and implement cancer control actions. Yet only one in five low- and middle-income countries have the necessary data to drive policy and reduce the burden and suffering due to cancer. The Global Initiative for Cancer Registry Development (GICR) is a coordinated, multi-partner approach to deliver the required change. Its objective is to make cancer data count.

"This project is funded by the Office of the Secretary Patient Centered Outcomes Research Trust Fund for Data Infrastructure. This goal of this project is to facilitate the use of Real World Data (RWD) sources (e.g., claims, EHRs, registries, electronic Patient Reported Outcomes (ePRO)) to support evidence generation for regulatory and clinical decision making. This project will: (1) Develop common data architecture as the intermediary between various Common Data Models; (2) Create a sustainable, flexible, modifiable shared resource that can evolve over time with changing requirements; (3) Validate the common data architecture through a specific use case that would evaluate the safety of newly approved oncology drugs that help to allow the immune system to target cancers; and (4) Establish methods and develop processes, policies and governance for ongoing curation, maintenance, and sustainability of the common data architecture, building upon existing resources, standards, and tools."
