Title Collaboration Type HHS Participating Agencies NIH Participating Institutes, Centers, and Offices Description
Smokefree.gov Resource Development CDC, OS NCI, OD/DPCPSI/OBSSR Smokefree.gov is intended to help individuals quit smoking. Different people need different resources as they try to quit. The information and professional assistance available on this Web site can help to support both immediate and long-term needs as individuals become, and remain, a nonsmoker. Smokefree.gov allows individuals to choose the help that best fits their needs. This collaboration also includes a number of smoking cessation text message programs throughout the world: China, Caribbean, Guam, American Samoa, and Samoa.
Smoking Cessation Services during CDC TIPS II Campaign Public Education Campaign CDC NCI To assist in ensuring that 1-800-QUIT-NOW''s counseling services and the National Cancer Institute''s text messaging service and web site (Smokefree.gov) have adequate capacity to meet the expected increased demand for services during the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention TIPS Campaigns
SNOMED CT (Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine) International and Support Services Resource Development AHRQ, CDC, CMS, FDA, HRSA, IHS, OS, SAMHSA NLM This activity provides support for SNOMED CT (Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine -- Clinical Terms), a systematically organized computer processable collection of medical terminology covering most areas of clinical information such as diseases, findings, procedures, microorganisms, pharmaceuticals etc. It allows a consistent way to index, store, retrieve, and aggregate clinical data across specialties and sites of care. It also helps organizing the content of medical records, reducing the variability in the way data is captured, encoded and used for clinical care of patients and research.
SO-SMART: Significant Outcomes-Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Readies for Trials Workshop Meeting/ Workshop FDA NINDS Neurological diseases are often chronic, slowly progressive diseases with heterogeneous populations, which present challenges when designing clinical trials of novel therapeutic or comparative effectiveness trials. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) plans to further the discussion on appropriate outcome measures in such trials using Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) as a sample population. The purpose of the workshop is 1) Have an interactive discussion about the current state of knowledge in the SMA field; 2) Have researchers present data on available outcome measures; 3) Have an interactive discussion on outcome measures such as patient-related outcomes/quality of life.
Society for Prevention Research Annual Meetings Meeting/ Workshop ACF, CDC NIDA, NCI, NIAAA, NICHD, OD/DPCPSI/OBSSR, OD/DPCPSI/ODP The Society for Prevention Research was formed in 1991 and has grown from a small group of researchers focused on drug and alcohol abuse prevention and mental health to become a leading scientific organization devoted to advancing prevention science, with 700+ members and a multidisciplinary prevention focus that emphasizes drug abuse, mental health and HIV/AIDS prevention in addition to diverse, public health domains (e.g., obesity, violence, translational science). The annual meetings promote cross-fertilization of theory, methods, and intervention and provide an opportunity to enhance understanding of the underlying mechanisms of health-related issues with the goal of building the science of effective strategies, and for prevention and health promotion.
Standardization of Methods to Generate Spiked Clinical Samples for Use in Studies to Support FDA Clearance of Diagnostics for Low Prevalence Pathogens Research Initiative FDA NIAID The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has been working with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to develop standardized methods to generate clinical samples to assess the performance of diagnostic tests.
Standards for Genetic Testing Report Research Initiative AHRQ, CDC, OS NLM, NHGRI This activity aims to develop a standard reporting format for genetic variations using Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes (LOINC) and HL7, for electronic medical records health information exchange, and activities of the Office of the Secretary.
State Cancer Profiles Resource Development CDC NCI The objective of the State Cancer Profiles Web site is to provide a system to characterize the cancer burden in a standardized manner in order to motivate action, integrate surveillance into cancer control planning, characterize areas and demographic groups, and expose health disparities. The focus is on cancer sites for which there are evidence based control interventions. Interactive graphics and maps provide visual support for deciding where to focus cancer control efforts.
Strategic Multisite Initiative for the Identification, Linkage and Engagement in Care of Youth with Undiagnosed HIV Infection (SMILE in CARING for YOUTH) Research Initiative CDC NICHD, NIDA, NIMH The Adolescent Medicine Trials Network for HIV/AIDS Interventions (ATN) was awarded grant money to expand their project of increasing availability of HIV testing for adolescents 12-24 and the provision of adolescent-focused healthcare services for those adolescents who are diagnosed with HIV infection. The project’s expansion includes all the ATN sites across the U.S. The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development is collecting data to evaluate the effectiveness of adolescent oriented linkage to care services for the HIV infected adolescents. This collaboration has the potential to improve the health of American youth, both by identifying those with undiagnosed HIV and bringing them into adolescent-friendly treatment programs and by reducing the chances of them further spreading the virus to others. There is a committee "SMILE in CARING for YOUTH" that monitors activities related to the National Institutes of Health-Centers for Disease Control and Prevention collaboration on enhancing treatment and retention in care of HIV youth.
Structured Data Capture Forms and Common Data Element Working Groups Other OS NCI, NLM This working group designed a standard form and data element structure, as well as developed XML artifacts and an implementation guide.
