The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is working with the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) and the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) on a project to use a previously developed mathematical model to determine the best use of a limited supply of H7N9 vaccine.

The Nanoscale Science, Engineering, and Technology (NSET) Subcommittee and Nanotechnology Environmental, and Health Implications (NEHI) Working Group provide leadership in establishing the national nanotechnology environmental, health, and safety research agenda and in communicating data and information related to environmental and health aspects of nanotechnology between National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI) agencies and with the public. NNI activities support the development of new tools and methods required for the research that will enable risk analysis and assist in regulatory decision-making. NNI agencies engage and interact with regional, state, and local groups, educational institutions, industry-supported groups, and non-governmental organizations to enhance the impact and value of NNI efforts and to provide a collaborative approach.

U.S. Government response to Fukushima nuclear crisis

Scientists were deployed in 2011 for two weeks to the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, Japan, as part of the U.S. Government response to protect U.S. citizens abroad during a nuclear crisis. The National Cancer Institute continues to collaborate on research involving the response and recovery efforts.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) is an independent panel of non-Federal experts in prevention and evidence-based medicine and is composed of primary care providers. The USPSTF conducts scientific evidence reviews of a broad range of clinical preventive health care services (such s screening, counseling, and preventive medications) and develops recommendations for primary care clinicians and health systems that are published in the form of "Recommendation Statements."

The purpose of the Interagency Forensics Advisory Board is to discuss strategies for the U.S. Government (USG) in the area of microbial forensics and attribution investigations. One of the first agenda items concerned microbial repositories across the USG with a focus on challenges and gaps.

Public law 99-158 establishes a need for the Urology Interagency Coordinating Committee and emphasizes the importance of interagency coordinating meetings. Meetings focus on interagency collaboration to elicit ideas from meeting participants to enhance current research directions within the National Institutes of Health and form partnerships among agencies.

US-Ireland Research & Development Partnership

The goal of the partnership is to stimulate collaborative research between the U.S. and Ireland in the area of cystic fibrosis (CF), diabetes, and nanotechnology. Government agencies and non-profit organizations, including National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute; National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases; National Science Foundation; Cystic Fibrosis Foundation; R&D Office (Northern Ireland); Department of Enterprise, Trade, and Employment; Health Research Board; Science Foundation Ireland; and Inter-Trade Ireland, participate. As an outgrowth of the U.S.-Ireland R&D Partnership, a grant proposal on the role of anaerobic bacterial infection in CF was submitted to the National Institutes of Health which involves U.S.-Ireland tripartite scientific collaboration.
