Trans-HHS Intimate Partner Violence Screening and Counseling: Research Symposium Meeting/ Workshop ACF, ACL, AHRQ, CDC, HRSA, IHS, SAMHSA NIDA, NIA, NIAAA, NIMH, NLM, OD/DPCPSI/ORWH, OD/OER The Coordinating Committee on Women''s Health represents U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) agencies and offices throughout the Department. It has identified the prevention and intervention of domestic/intimate partner violence (IPV) as a priority focus for its cross-federal work. There is a critical need for guidelines for health practitioners to effectively screen patients for IPV and provide appropriate counseling. At the request of Dr. Howard Koh, HHS convened a research symposium at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in December 2013 with the purpose of identifying gaps in research in screening and counseling for IPV in primary health care settings and to shape priorities in the national research agenda moving forward. Ultimately, the Department’s goal is to promote effective strategies for health care practitioners for screening and counseling.
Trans-NIH American Indian and Alaska Native Health Communications and Information Workgroup Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force IHS NIAMS, NCCAM, NCI, NEI, NHGRI, NHLBI, NIA, NICHD, NIDA, NIDCD, NIDCR, NIDDK, NIGMS, NIMH, NIMHD, NINDS, NINR, NLM, OD/DPCPSI/ORWH The workgroup provides a forum for National Institutes of Health (NIH) health education and communications staff to share effective communication approaches to develop and disseminate health information for American Indian and Alaska Native communities. The Work Group partners with the Indian Health Service to conduct outreach to 1,600 Community Health Representatives (CHRs) nationwide through a regular mailing of NIH health information in order to increase awareness among CHRs about the availability of NIH health information for patients and the general public.

Broad input is solicited from scientists from NIH, other government agencies such as the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, U.S. Agency for International Development, Department of Defense, and U.S. President''s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, and non-governmental organizations, as well as community representatives and other experts from the U.S. and abroad.
Translational Research to Help Older Adults Maintain their Health and Independence in the Community Research Initiative ACL NIA The National Institute on Aging (NIA) is soliciting applications using the National Institutes of Health R01 and R21 award mechanisms for translational research that move evidence-based research findings toward the development of new interventions, programs, policies, practices, and tools that can be used by community-based organizations to help elderly individuals remain healthy and independent, and living in their own homes and communities. The goal of this initiative is to support translational research involving collaborations between academic research centers and community-based organizations with expertise serving the elderly, specifically encouraging connections with Area Agencies on Aging, organizations affiliated with the Corporation for National and Community Service, and other entities that will enhance our understanding of practical tools, techniques, programs and policies that communities across the nation can use to more effectively respond to needs of their aging populations.

Treating for Two: Safe Medication Use in Pregnancy Initiative Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force AHRQ, CDC, FDA, HRSA OD/DPCPSI/ORWH, NICHD The initiative provides expert input for the development of a conference on systematic, evidence-based review of specific medications used during pregnancy and adverse fetal outcomes.
Treatment Options for Type 2 Diabetes in Adolescents and Youth (TODAY) Research Initiative CDC NIDDK Treatment Options for Type 2 Diabetes in Adolescents and Youth (TODAY) is a multi-center clinical research study examining the safety and efficacy of three treatment options for type 2 diabetes in the pediatric population. TODAY was initiated due to the increase in type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents, which itself is linked to the rise in obesity.
