Government Interagency Working Group on Nanotechnology, Environmental, and Health Implications (NEHI), of the Nanoscale Science, Engineering, and Technology Subcommittee (NSET) of the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force CDC, FDA NIBIB, NCI, NHGRI, NIEHS The NSET Subcommittee and NEHI Working Group provide leadership in establishing the national nanotechnology environmental, health, and safety research agenda and in communicating data and information related to environmental and health aspects of nanotechnology between National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI) agencies and with the public. NNI activities support the development of new tools and methods required for the research that will enable risk analysis and assist in regulatory decision-making. NNI agencies engage and interact with regional, state, and local groups, educational institutions, industry-supported groups, and non-governmental organizations to enhance the impact and value of NNI efforts and to provide a collaborative approach.
U.S. Government Microbicides Coordinating Committee Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force CDC, FDA OD/DPCPSI/OAR, FIC, NCI, NIAID, NICHD, NIDA, NIMH, NINR, OD NIH/OAR administers and chairs committee of representatives from each side of the U.S. Government agencies involved in microbicides research. The committee provides coordination and collaboration of U.S. Government microbicides research activities.
U.S.-Brazil Working Group on Public Health Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force CDC, FDA, OS NCI, FIC, NIAID The Brazil-US Joint Commission Meeting on Science and Technology Cooperation (JCM) established the Working Group on Public Health to address issues including: (1) renewal of the Implementing Agreement for Science and Technology Agreement in the field of Public Health and biomedical Research; (2) identification of research topics of mutual interest for possible joint support; and, (3) exchange of information and discussion of regulatory and ethical requirements for research review and implementation. The 3rd Meeting of the US-Brazil Working Group on Public Health convened February 24-25, 2011, Brasilia, Brazil.

Understanding International Health Differences in High-income Countries: Patterns, Puzzles, Paradoxes, and Public Health Opportunities Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force OS OD, FIC, NIA The National Academy of Sciences in collaboration with the Institute of Medicine, is examining international differences among high-income countries in measures of health and disability over the life-cycle with special attention to public health implications for the USA. The USA compares poorly against other countries on many critical indicators of health and well-being. The examination will review available data and offer a state-of-the science assessment of underlying individual and societal causes.
Unified Medical Language System Metathesaurus (UMLS) Other AHRQ, CDC, CMS, FDA NLM NLM''s Unified Medical Language System (UMLS®) facilitates the development of computer systems that behave as if they understand the meaning of the language of biomedicine and health. To that end, NLM produces and distributes the UMLS Knowledge Sources (databases) and associated software tools (programs) for use by system developers in building or enhancing electronic information systems that create, process, retrieve, integrate, and/or aggregate biomedical and health data and information, as well as in informatics research. By design, the UMLS Knowledge Sources are multi-purpose.
