Trans-NIH Topics for Twitter chats Public Education Campaign OS NICHD, NCI, NIDA, NIMH The NICHD plays an active role in social media, including leading Twitter chats on different topics within its mission. Often these topics also fall into the portfolios of other NIH Institutes and Centers, so the NICHD reaches out to those Institutes to request their participation, which provides a broader range of research-based information to chat participants. For example, the NICHD led a Twitter chat about the teen brain in collaboration with ABC News'' Chief Health and Medical Editor, Dr. Richard Besser, the National Institute of Mental Health, and the HHS Office of Adolescent Health. The chat was well attended, 44,400,000 impressions made; 1,800 tweets posted; and 439 users. In addition to NUMH, the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the National Institute on Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse also participated in the chat.
Translational Research to Help Older Adults Maintain their Health and Independence in the Community Research Initiative ACL NIA The National Institute on Aging (NIA) is soliciting applications using the National Institutes of Health R01 and R21 award mechanisms for translational research that move evidence-based research findings toward the development of new interventions, programs, policies, practices, and tools that can be used by community-based organizations to help elderly individuals remain healthy and independent, and living in their own homes and communities. The goal of this initiative is to support translational research involving collaborations between academic research centers and community-based organizations with expertise serving the elderly, specifically encouraging connections with Area Agencies on Aging, organizations affiliated with the Corporation for National and Community Service, and other entities that will enhance our understanding of practical tools, techniques, programs, and policies that communities across the nation can use to more effectively respond to needs of their aging populations.

Treating for Two is CDC’s prescription for this problem. Treating for Two aims to improve the health of women and babies by working to identify the safest treatment options for the management of common conditions before and during pregnancy.

Treatment Options for Type 2 Diabetes in Adolescents and Youth (TODAY) Research Initiative CDC NIDDK Treatment Options for Type 2 Diabetes in Adolescents and Youth (TODAY) is a multi-center clinical research study examining the safety and efficacy of three treatment options for type 2 diabetes in the pediatric population. TODAY was initiated due to the increase in type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents, which itself is linked to the rise in obesity.
