Research to Guide Practice Enhancing HIV/AIDS Platforms to Address Non- Communicable Diseases in Low Resource Settings (HIV/NCD Integration Project) Research Initiative CDC FIC, NCI, NHLBI, NIAID, NICHD, NIDDK, NIMH, NIMHD, NINDS, NINR, OD/DPCPSI/OAR Research to guide practice: Enhancing human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) and the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) platforms to address non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in low-resource settings (the HIV/NCD Integration Project) aims to bring together researchers, implementers, and government representatives to articulate practical goals, approaches, and a related research agenda to incorporate prevention, care, and treatment for NCDs into HIV/AIDS platforms in sub-Saharan Africa. The HIV/NCD Integration Project focuses on people living with HIV, many of whom are being treated successfully for HIV, but who are increasingly experiencing co-morbid diseases or conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and depression. This project has produced landscape analyses, is establishing research agendas and priorities, and supports products, including modeled data, to enhance NCD services through HIV platforms.
Research to Inform the Prevention of Asthma in Healthcare Research Initiative CDC NCI This collaboration between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) aims to characterize the exposure of healthcare workers to disinfectants and other chemicals.
Research-Tested Intervention Program Database (RTIPs) Resource Development CDC NCI The Research-Tested Intervention Program Database (RTIPs) is a searchable database of cancer control interventions and program materials and is designed to provide program planners and public health practitioners easy and immediate access to research-tested materials.
Review of Applications for the Biomedical Data Translator: Development Phase Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force FDA NCATS, NHGRI, NIDDK, NLM The goal of the Biomedical Data Translator program is to build an online tool based on a massive network of biomedical knowledge that can be used to augment human reasoning and allow biomedical researchers to create new hypotheses, leading to innovative soluations for patient care. The review of applications for funding to create this tool is an important step on the road to creating the final Translator infrastructure.
Revision of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Guidelines on Hepatitis B Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force CDC CC The collaboration serves to revise guidelines for managing occupational exposures to the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and managing healthcare workers infected with hepatitis B.
Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award Program Training Initiative AHRQ, HRSA OD/OER The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award program provides predoctoral and postdoctoral training to meet the nation’s need for investigators in biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research. In accordance with the Public Health Service Act and annual appropriations acts, NIH annually transfers a portion of these funds to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and Health Resources and Services Administration to foster the training of health services and primary care researchers.
RxNorm Resource Development FDA NLM RxNorm provides normalized names for clinical drugs and links its names to many of the drug vocabularies commonly used in pharmacy management and drug interaction software. By providing links between these vocabularies, RxNorm can mediate messages between systems not using the same software and vocabulary.
Sabbatical in Clinical Research Management Program Training Initiative FDA, OS CC, FIC, NCATS, NEI, NHLBI, NIAID, NIDCR, NIDDK Experienced investigators come to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to learn about management of a clinical research enterprise, including topics such as planning and budget development, protocol writing and tracking, and scientific review. Sabbaticals are self-directed, meaning that the participant chooses from a list of electives and helps determine how much time to spend studying each topic. The electives are offered by leaders at the NIH and other US Department of Health and Human Services agencies with the NIH Clinical Center being the most heavily involved.
