National Advisory Board for Medical Rehabilitation Research Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force ACL, CDC NICHD, NHLBI, NIA, NIAMS, NIDCD, NINDS, OD/DPCPSI The Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) was mandated in P.L. 101-613 to establish the National Advisory Board on Medical Rehabilitation Research. The Board advises the directors of the NIH, the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), and NICHD''s National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research (NCMRR) on matters and policies relating to the NCMRR''s programs. The Board is comprised of 12 members representing health and scientific disciplines related to medical rehabilitation and six members representing persons with disabilities.
National Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Registry Resource Development ATSDR, CDC NINDS The National ALS Registry is a congressionally mandated registry for persons in the US with ALS. It is the only population-based registry in the US that collects information to help scientists learn more about who gets ALS and its causes.
National Cancer Control Strategy Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force CDC NCI The National Cancer Control Strategy is a National Cancer Institute (NCI) funded study through the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, which examines cancer control efforts in the United States. This study is expected to produce a report, which will recommend a national strategy to reduce the incidence, morbidity, and mortality from cancer and to improve quality of life for cancer survivors.
National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) Patient-focused Therapeutics Development Toolkit Resource Development FDA NCATS NCATS is dedicated to engaging the patient community throughout the translational science process. The NCATS Toolkit for Patient-Focused Therapy Development(link is external) (Toolkit) was created to provide a collection of online resources that can help patient groups advance through the process of therapy development and provide them with the tools they need to advance medical research.
National Clinical Care Commission Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force AHRQ, CDC, CMS, FDA, HRSA, IHS NIDDK The National Clinical Care Commission (NCCC) evaluates and provides recommendations on the coordination and leveraging of federal programs related to complex metabolic or autoimmune diseases that result from insulin-related issues and represent a significant disease burden in the United States, including complications due to such diseases. The Assistant Secretary for Health (ASH) provides guidance and oversight for the Commission’s function and activities. The Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) will provide management and support services for the Commission’s activities. The NCCC will conduct activities until October 2021.
National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN) Scientific Steering Committees (SSCs) Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force FDA NCI Scientific Steering Committees (SSCs) are composed of leading cancer experts and advocates from outside the Institute as well as the National Cancer Institute (NCI) senior investigators who meet regularly to: (1) increase the transparency and openness of the trial design and prioritization process; (2) enhance patient advocate and community oncologist involvement in clinical trial design and prioritization; (3) convene Clinical Trial Planning Meetings to identify critical questions, unmet needs, and prioritize key strategies.
National Coalition for Oversite of Assisted Reproductive Technologies (NCOART) Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force CDC, FDA NICHD The National Coalition for Oversight of Assisted Reproductive Technologies (NCOART) has become a successful forum for discussion of issues by organizations involved in the assisted reproductive technologies (ART) in the United States.
National Collaborative on Childhood Obesity Research (NCCOR) Research Initiative CDC OD/DPCPSI/ODP, NCI, NHLBI, NICHD, NIDDK, OD/DPCPSI/OBSSR Launched in 2009, the National Collaborative on Childhood Obesity Research (NCCOR) brings together four of the nation’s leading research funders — the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) — to accelerate progress in reducing childhood obesity in America. These leading national organizations: work in tandem to manage projects and reach common goals; coordinate funding to make the most of available resources; and share insights and expertise to strengthen research. NCCOR focuses on efforts that have the potential to benefit children, teens, and their families, and the communities in which they live. In September 2019, NCCOR launched four new Measures Registry Learning Modules, videos that assist researchers and practitioners with choosing the best measures across the four domains of: individual diet, food environment, individual physical activity and physical activity environment. Also, in 2019 NCCOR held the first two in a series of three workshops, supported by The JPB Foundation, aimed at understanding what we need to measure to solve the childhood obesity crisis: 1) Advancing measurement of individual behaviors related to childhood obesity. 2) Advancing measurement for high-risk populations and communities related to childhood obesity.
National Database for Antibiotic Resistant Organisms (NDARO) Resource Development CDC, FDA NIAID, CC, FIC, NCATS, NCI, NHLBI, NIA, NIAAA, NIDA The objective of this collaboration is to produce a collection of high-quality genome sequences from antibiotic-resistant strains and to create and maintain a publicly accessible database -- National Database for antibiotic resistance (AR), developed and housed at the National Center for Biotechnology Information of the National Library of Medicine (NLM).
