USDA-HHS Birth to 24 Months & Pregnant Women Project Federal Expert Group Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force CDC, FDA NHLBI, NCI, NICHD, NIDDK, OD/DPCPSI/OBSSR, OD/DPCPSI/ODP The current work includes identifying topics of public health importance and conducting a small number of systematic reviews on diet and health for infants, toddlers, and women who are pregnant; it will not include specific dietary recommendations or advice. The scientific basis for dietary guidance for these population groups will be informed by the advisory report of the next (2020) Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee.
Value Set Authority Center (VSAC) Resource Development AHRQ, CDC, CMS, OS NLM The National Library of Medicine (NLM) provides an online repository of value sets (code sets from standardized medical vocabularies) that are used for clinical quality measurement in the CMS EHR Incentive Program (meaningful use). The Value Set Authority Center (VSAC) provides downloadable access to all official versions of vocabulary value sets contained in the 2014 Clinical Quality Measures (CQMs). Each value set consists of the numerical values (codes) and human-readable names (terms), drawn from standard vocabularies such as SNOMED CT ®, RxNorm, LOINC, and ICD-10-CM, which are used to define clinical concepts used in clinical quality measures (e.g., patients with diabetes, clinical visit).
Violence Against Women Steering Committee (DHHS VAW) Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force ACF, AHRQ, CDC, HRSA, IHS, OS, SAMHSA OD/DPCPSI/ORWH, NIA, NIAAA, NICHD, NIDA, NIMH, NLM, OD/DPCPSI, OD/DPCPSI/OAR, OD/DPCPSI/OBSSR The DHHS Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) steering committee is chaired by the Office on Women’s Health (OWH). The VAWA committee has the responsibility for coordinating the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) response to issues related to violence against women and their children, and also coordinates DHHS violence-related activities with those of other Federal agencies. The members of the committee establish links with professional societies in the health and social service fields to increase attention to women’s health and violence issues. The members of the committee also serve as resource experts for the National Advisory Committee on VAW, which is chaired by the HHS Secretary and the DOJ Attorney General.
Vitamin D Standardization Program (VDSP) Research Initiative CDC OD/OSP, OD/DPCPSI/ODS The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS) collaborates with CDC and others on the VDSP, which is an international collaborative effort to standardize the laboratory measurement of vitamin D status. The goal of the program is to improve the detection, evaluation, and treatment of vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency by promoting the standardized laboratory measurement of serum total 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D]. VDSP promotes the standardized laboratory measurement of total 25(OH)D (a measure of vitamin D status) to improve clinical and public health practice worldwide.
White House Task Force on Research and Development for Technology to Support Aging Adults Other ACL, AHRQ NHLBI, NCI, NIA, NIBIB, NIDCD The Task Force on Research and Development for Technology to Support Older Adults (Tech4Aging) was established by action of the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) Committee on Technology (CoT). In the 2016 Report on Independence, Technology, and Connection in Older Age, the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) focused on the loss of social engagement and connectivity, cognitive change, and physical change that aging Americans often experience. Tech4Aging is to advise and assist the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology and the CoT on science and technology policy, procedures, and plans related to research and development (R&D) that will lead to technology that enhances aging Americans’ ability to be independent and engage with society as they age. These technologies may be appropriate for anyone regardless of age with the relevant functional limitations.
Work Group on Harmonizing Hemoglobinopathy Data Sets Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force CDC, HRSA NLM, NCATS, NHLBI, NICHD, NIGMS, OD/OER The mission of the Workgroup for Harmonizing Hemoglobinopathy Data Sets is to create a resource for federal programs and extramural communities to use in data systems that incorporate data elements in hemoglobinopathies. Specifically this entails establishing a Hemoglobinopathies Uniform Medical Language including: identifying specific goals and objectives for the kind of data that are required by these programs; case definitions for electronic data systems at all levels; consensus about conditions and data elements to be included; and differentiation between data needs for surveillance and for registries/biorepository.
Working Groups to Develop Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) HIV/AIDS Treatment and Prevention Guidelines Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force CDC, HRSA OD/DPCPSI/OAR, NIAID, NICHD There are five working groups to develop Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention guidelines. The five working groups are the 1) HHS Panel on Antiretroviral Guidelines for Adults and Adolescents, 2) HHS Panel on Opportunistic Infections in HIV-Infected Adults and Adolescents, 3) HHS Panel on Antiretroviral Therapy and Medical Management of Children Living with HIV, 4) HHS Panel on Opportunistic Infections in HIV-Exposed and HIV-Infected Children, and 5) Panel on Treatment of Pregnant Women with HIV Infection and Prevention of Perinatal Transmission. The DHHS HIV/AIDS Treatment and Prevention Guideline Panels update guidelines for HIV/AIDS care providers with the most current information on combination antiretroviral therapy, treatment and prevention of opportunistic infections for people living with HIV, and the emergence of new knowledge on safety and efficacy in the general population as well as in pregnant women and children.
Workshop on Zika therapeutics Meeting/ Workshop BARDA, FDA NIAID, NCATS, NICHD The goals of the workshop, held in September 2017, were to: • Discuss possible therapeutic approaches for Zika Virus (ZIKV) and the ideal properties for each therapeutic • Discuss the optimal clinical trial design for different indications and achievable endpoints • Review animal models that might be used to support pre-clinical development of therapeutics • Review current ZIKV therapeutic development efforts
World Health Organization (WHO) Programme on Prevention of Deafness and Hearing Loss Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force CDC NIDCD Stakeholders’ meeting for the WHO Programme on Prevention of Deafness and Hearing Loss to explore mechanisms to offer financial support for a World Report on Hearing (prepared and disseminated through WHO).
Zika Supplement for Virus Tissue Tropism During Pregnancy Resource Development FDA, HRSA NIAID This activity addressed a time-critical public health crisis to understand Zika virus (ZIKV) and HIV in the Americas. This supplement leverages unique existing collaborations and resources from the parent award to develop models for ZIKV pathogenesis that currently do not exist. The investigators have the ideal expertise in virology, immunology, primate models of pregnancy, and pediatrics to quickly establish a relevant animal model for ZIKV infection of pregnant women. This supplement will perform initial studies of virus replication and pathogenesis in pregnant female macaques and their offspring. This will directly address a rapidly expanding public health emergency in the Americas that may threaten vulnerable HIV+ populations.
