Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award Program Training Initiative AHRQ, HRSA OD/OER The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award program provides predoctoral and postdoctoral training to meet the nation’s need for investigators in biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research. In accordance with the Public Health Service Act (Public Law 1118, Section 219), NIH annually transfers a portion of these funds to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and Health Resources and Services Administration to foster the training of health services and primary care researchers.
RxNorm Resource Development FDA NLM RxNorm provides normalized names for clinical drugs and links its names to many of the drug vocabularies commonly used in pharmacy management and drug interaction software. By providing links between these vocabularies, RxNorm can mediate messages between systems not using the same software and vocabulary.
Sabbatical in Clinical Research Management Program Training Initiative FDA, OS CC, FIC, NCATS, NEI, NHLBI, NIAID, NIDCR, NIDDK Experienced investigators come to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to learn about management of a clinical research enterprise, including topics such as planning and budget development, protocol writing and tracking and scientific review. Sabbaticals are self-directed, meaning that the participant chooses from a list of electives and helps determine how much time to spend studying each topic. The electives are offered by leaders at the NIH and other U.S. Department of Health and Human Services agencies with the NIH Clinical Center being the most heavily involved.

Safety and Efficacy Evaluations of Topical Microbicide (TM) Biomedical Prevention (BP) Products in the Repeat Low-Dose Macaque SIV/SHIV Infection Model Research Initiative CDC NIAID The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recognize the need to perform preclinical safety and efficacy evaluations of candidate products in the repeat low-dose (RLD) macaque SIV/SHIV infection model established by CDC. NIAID established an interagency agreement with CDC to: 1) conduct safety and efficacy evaluations of Topical Microbicide/Biomedical Prevention products in the RLD macaque model, including pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic analyses of candidate biomedical prevention products; 2) utilize relevant macaque species, virus strains, and routes of infection to accomplish the proposed evaluations; and 3) perform other macaque studies as needed.
SAMHSA Recovery Month Public Education Campaign SAMHSA NIDA The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) annual public health observance for people in recovery from substance abuse; The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is part of SAMHSA''s inter-agency planning committee and a promotional partner.

This activity is part of NIAID’s ongoing efforts to develop a well-characterized repository of HIV virus panels for diagnostics, and drug and vaccine studies.
Scientific Advisory Working Group for Development of Products for Mulitpurpose Prevention Technology Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force FDA NICHD, NIAID, OD/DPCPSI/ORWH The initiative for development of products for multipurpose prevention technology is a collaborative effort involving governmental and non-governmental agencies involved in research and development of therapeutic products that are designed for more than one indication. The collaborating agencies serving on the committee include the Office of Research on Women’s Health, NIAID, NICHD, USAID and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The Advisory Group’s main activities have been to identify gaps in product development efforts, create the desired target product profiles depending on the indications for the products, to communicate activities within the MPT field and to provide complementary expertise across the different fields of research.
SCOPE (Spinal Cord Injury Outcomes Endeavor) Other ACL NICHD The Spinal Cord Outcomes Partnership Endeavor (SCOPE) aims to enhance the development of clinical trial and clinical practice protocols that will accurately validate therapeutic interventions for spinal cord injury (SCI) leading to the adoption of improved best practices.
