Intragovernmental Select Agents and Toxins Technical Advisory Committee (ISATTAC) Committee, Work group, Advisory group, or Task Force CDC, FDA, OS OD/OSP, NCI, NIAID The Intragovernmental Select Agents and Toxins Technical Advisory Committee (ISATTAC) makes technically based recommendations to the APHIS/CDC Select Agent and Toxin Program on restricted experiments of Select Agents and Toxins and the exclusion and exemption of attenuated strains. The Committee also conducts a biennial review of the Select Agents and Toxins list for HHS and overlap agents and toxins.
Investigations of Early Life Determinants of Pediatric and Adult Malignancies in a Population Research Initiative CDC NCI In collaboration with investigators from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the China CDC, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) is assessing risk of pediatric leukemia and other pediatric cancers in a large population of offspring of mothers enrolled in a community intervention program of peri-conception folic acid supplementation in China. Pediatric cancer risks will be compared in offspring of mothers treated vs offspring of mothers not treated with folic acid supplements.
IOM Consensus Study: Public Health Approaches to Reduce Vision Impairment and Promote Eye Health. Other CDC NEI The Institute of Medicine conducted a consensus study to examine the core principles and public health strategies to reduce visual impairment and promote eye health in the United States. The study described limitations and opportunities to improve vision and eye health surveillance; reduce vision and eye health disparities; promote evidence-based strategies to improve knowledge, access and utilization to eye care; identify comorbid conditions and characterize their impact; and, promote health for people with vision impairment. The study also examined the potential for public and private collaborations at the community, state, and national levels to elevate vision and eye health as a public health issue.
It’s a Noisy Planet. Protect Their Hearing® Public Education campaign Public Education Campaign CDC NIDCD The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) sponsors, It’s a Noisy Planet Protect Their Hearing®, a national public education campaign to increase awareness among parents of children ages 8 to 12 about the causes and prevention of noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). The campaign disseminates messages through print and digital materials, community-based events, school presentations, and other methods. The campaign launched in October 2008 as a follow up to the NIDCD''''s Wise Ears! campaign, which increased awareness about preventing NIHL among workers, employers, and Americans of all ages from 1999 to 2008. The CDC’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has actively collaborated with the NIDCD for both campaigns.

The working group includes members from various NIH Institutes and Centers and the FDA.

Joint Committee and Joint Commission Meetings Meeting/ Workshop CDC, FDA, OS NCI, FIC, NIAID US State Department establishes collaborative agreements with foreign governments in fields of science and technology. These Joint Committee and Joint Commission Meetings (JCMs) facilitate discussion on selected topics creating cross-talk among the equivalent government agencies leading towards future collaborations. The Office of the HHS Secretary (OS), through the Office of Global Affairs (OGA), organizes the operational divisions of the Department of Health and Humans Services (HHS); The Fogarty International Center (FIC) facilitates the participation of NIH Institutes and Centers. For FY2011, JCMs were convened for Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico.
