The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Arctic Working Group was organized in March 2015 by the Office of Global Affairs, Office of the HHS Secretary. The purpose of the Working Group is to (1) ensure coordination of deliverables to the Arctic Executive Steering Committee (AESC), which was established by Executive Order and held its first meeting in February, 2015; (2) provide an opportunity for cross-agency learning and communication regarding activities and projects in Arctic regions; and, (3) facilitate future interagency collaborations.

This workgroup is a Public Health Energy Enterprise. The IPT working group provides an end-to-end vision of medical countermeasures needed for a particular threat type (e.g., anthrax, rad/nuc, etc.). The scope of their work includes setting requirements for the stockpiling of Medical Countermeasures (MCMs), MCM delivery, and dispensing and monitoring MCM development. The IPTs also advise the Enterprise Executive Committee as to threat- or capability-specific MCM priorities for improving preparedness, to inform leadership consideration of cross-threat prioritizations and strategic goal setting.

The National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) Serves as Co-Chair with FDA on this inter-agency subcommittee addressing prescription drug abuse.

The BHCC is tasked with assuring that agencies coordinate their activities related to addressing the needs of and services for persons with behavioral healthcare concerns, particularly but not exclusively those with serious mental illness (SMI). The new charge of the Trauma and Early Intervention Subcommittee is the creation of a Primer on Trauma-Informed Human Services that will summarize the practical implications of recent research about trauma, toxic stress, executive functioning, and related constructs for managers and administrators of HHS-supported human services programs.

The BHCC is tasked with assuring that agencies coordinate their activities related to addressing the needs of and services for persons with behavioral healthcare concerns, particularly but not exclusively those with serious mental illness (SMI). The Behavioral Health/Primary Care Integration Subcommittee addresses the need to improve the integration of mental health and primary care services. This group convenes bi-monthly to share agency initiatives in this area and collaborate on new initiatives to promote this integration.

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) participates on the HHS BARDA Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute (AFRRI) Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) Integrated Project Team to collaborate and provide subject matter expertise, advice, and guidance on establishing a quality assurance program at AFRRI for GLP compliance.
