The purpose of this agreement is for the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Minority Health to provide financial support to the NICHD to: (1) conduct a review of relevant program evaluation studies that focus on health communication and outreach programs to increase awareness of health risks and/or modify health-related behaviors; and (2) conduct a literature review of relevant program evaluation studies that focus on health communications, outreach, and peer education or train-the-trainer programs. The long-term goal of this agreement is to coordinate federal efforts to reduce infant mortality and address health disparity reduction by evaluating and assessing the effectiveness of HHS-supported outreach and communication programs.

NLM is working with the FDA to provide advice on key mobile technologies for targeted adverse event reporting and medical counter measures in emergency settings. The group helped direct the design and development of the mobile app that was co-developed with programmers from Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH), the FDA contractor. BAH was responsible for the Web app that could be encapsulated within Android or iOS frameworks. NLM focused on the iOS framework and developed plugins for encryption, data caching and communications, audio capture, and overall app development. The app can send data to a cloud-based server under the aegis of the FDA. The app was demonstrated to the FDA leadership in June, 2014 and future R&D directions were outlined at the meeting. In addition to the design of the mobile app, NLM advised the FDA team on usability issues and provided guidance on distribution strategies.

Advisory Committee Meeting for Interactive Training on Chronic Pain Management

The committee was established to provide expert advice on the development of video-based tool for patient and provider education and training regarding safe use of opioids in chronic pain management. The training tool is called The Pathways to Safer Opioid Use. It is intended to provide CME training for health care providers.

The goal of these Fogarty HIV research training programs (AITRP) is to build multi-disciplinary biomedical, behavioral, and social science research capacity for the prevention, care, and treatment of HIV/AIDS and HIV-related conditions in adults and children in low-and middle-income countries. Research training will be provided to scientists at institutions in countries defined by the World Bank criteria as low- and middle-income. In FY14, PEPFAR/CDC-COP funded supplements to parent AITRP awards in Zambia through Vanderbilt; Uganda through the University of California, Berkeley; Tanzania through Baylor College of Medicine; and Ukraine through SUNY Medical Center Downstate.
