| Subject: | The draft RoC monograph on cobalt and certain cobalt compounds consists of two parts: (1) a cancer evaluation component, which is a literature based assessment of the potential carcinogenicity of cobalt and certain cobalt compounds and (2) a substance profile which contains the NTP preliminary listing recommendation for cobalt and certain cobalt compounds in the RoC, the science considered key in reaching that recommendation, and information on use, production, human exposure and Federal regulations or guidelines to limit exposure to cobalt and certain cobalt compounds. |
| Purpose (e.g., abstract): | The RoC is a Congressionally mandated, biennial document that identifies and discusses agents, substances, mixtures, or exposure circumstances (collectively referred to as “substances”) that may pose a hazard to human health by virtue of their carcinogenicity. Substances are listed in the RoC following a four-part process (http://ntp.niehs.nih.gov/go/rocprocess) and using established criteria (http://ntp.niehs.nih.gov/go/15209). As per the NTP’s process for preparing the RoC, each draft RoC monograph is peer reviewed by a panel of experts in a public forum. |
