Biographical Sketch of Marina L. Volkov, Ph.D.
Dr. Volkov became the Director of the Office of Evaluation, Performance, and Reporting in July 2018. Prior to that, she was the Director of the Division of Science Policy Communications, Collaborations, and Reporting in the Office of Science Policy in the NIH Office of the Director (OD). Before the OD, she spent 8 years at the National Institute of Mental Health Office of Science Policy, Planning, and Communications, first as Branch Chief for the Science Policy and Evaluation Branch, then as Acting Director. Dr. Volkov earned her Ph.D., at New York University in neuroscience and did a postdoctoral fellowship at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. After 2 years working for an organization advocating on behalf of the behavioral and cognitive sciences, she came to the NIH in 1994. Her first position was in the Office of the Director in the Office of Extramural Research, followed by 3 years in the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research as a Policy Analyst, then 5 years as a Scientific Review Administrator at the National Institute of Drug Abuse prior to returning to science policy.
