Implementation Working Group Co-chairs Present on Diversity in Nutrition Research at NIH

Implementation Working Groups (IWGs) assist the Office of Nutrition Research (ONR) and National Institutes of Health (NIH) in implementing the Strategic Plan for NIH Nutrition Research and are led by co-chairs from the NIH Institutes, Centers, and Offices. IWG co-chairs, Drs. Alison Brown (NHLBI), Mary Evans (NIDDK), Padma Maruvada (NIDDK), Charlotte Pratt (NHLBI), and Jill Reedy (NCI) served as speakers and panelists in the Diversity in Nutrition Research at NIH: Research and Professional Development Opportunities session on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at the American Society of Nutrition annual meeting, Nutrition 2021. The session highlighted NIH’s interest in this important topic, emphasized the need for research targeting minority and underrepresented populations, and discussed why the health of these populations is among NIH’s top research and training priorities.

To learn more about NIH training opportunities for minority and underrepresented researchers, please view the on demand session recordings, review the session presentation (coming soon), or contact us at nutritionresearch@nih.gov. Opportunities are available for a wide range of career stages from middle school students to established investigators.
