We are recruiting NIH staff to support the NIH Pavilion throughout the USA Science and Engineering Festival. Working in the NIH Pavilion at the USASEF is an officially sanctioned activity for NIH federal government employees. Employees who work in the NIH Pavilion at the event, as a part of their official duties, can inquire about compensation for their hours of service. (All others may volunteer at the USA Science and Engineering Festival Volunteer website). Contractors may also be able to support the event depending on their positions. Review the job descriptions below, to get an idea of our needs. Positions and the event schedule offer some flexibility depending on your availability.

NIH staff at the 2018 USASEF.
Jobs for the NIH Pavilion (NIH Staff Only)
- NIH Pavilion Exhibit Facilitator - In this role, the primary responsibility is to offer general guidance to festival attendees, and facilitate their exposure to science learning by encouraging them to participate in the numerous hands-on activities within the NIH Pavilion. Duties may include greeting visitors, answering general questions about the festival, directing visitors to areas of special interest, including to relevant health information provided in the NIH Pavilion Library, introducing visitors to NIH staff participating in the NIH Careers and Conversation Corner, as well as directing crowds and providing line management. An ideal exhibit facilitator is someone who is courteous, has good communication skills, and enjoys working with people of all ages.
- IC Activity Support - Each participating IC is recruiting NIH staff to support their individual hands-on activities. There is a need for individuals who are flexible and interested in being oriented and trained to conduct hands-on activities with the public. Volunteers will need to be open to last minute requests and be willing to fill vacant positions or gaps in the schedule as needed. An ideal activity support individual is someone who is courteous, has good communication skills, and enjoys working with people of all ages.
- NIH Careers and Conversation Corner - The NIH will host an NIH Careers and Conversation Corner within the NIH Pavilion. This space will offer interested members of the public an opportunity to informally talk with NIH scientists and other NIH staff, to ask questions about scientific and science-related careers (i.e. communications, engineering, medical arts, policy, and more), and learn more about how the NIH makes discoveries that improve health and save lives. If you love your job and career at the NIH, consider this opportunity.
- NIH Hour in the Career Pavilion - The USASEF hosts a Career Pavilion, in which different organizations host 1-hour sessions. The NIH session is typically held from noon to 1:00 pm on Saturday of the festival. This is a somewhat informal activity in that NIH staff with varied backgrounds and careers may talk about their careers and career paths to interested youth and family members. If you love your job, consider this opportunity.
