SGM Health Research Regional Workshops

Upcoming Regional Workshops

In support of the Office of Personnel Management guidance to strengthen our efforts to protect the federal workforce to ensure continuity of operations, NIH is urging staff to limit work-related attendance at large meetings to those that are mission critical. NIH also is urging that all large meetings and symposia that are not mission critical and are scheduled to be held at NIH facilities or organized by NIH over the next 30 days either be held virtually using tele/videoconferencing services, postponed, or cancelled.

Due to this guidance, we will need to postpone the upcoming SGM Regional Workshop being held at The Ohio State University on April 2nd.

Once a new date is determined, it will be announced via the SGMRO listserv and on the SGMRO website.

More About the Workshops

The NIH FY 2016-2020 Strategic Plan to Advance Research on the Health and Well-Being of Sexual and Gender Minorities includes goals and objectives that aim to increase and improve SGM health research supported by NIH. Goal Three of the strategic plan is to Strengthen the Community of Researchers and Scholars Who Conduct Research Relevant to SGM Health and Well-Being. To achieve this goal, in part, the SGMRO routinely hosts regional workshops in SGM health research to build capacity within the extramural research community.

The goals of the regional workshops are to:

  • Increase understanding of the NIH structure and processes
  • Encourage mentoring relationships within the extramural research community
  • Enhance capacity to conduct SGM research
  • Provide researchers with the opportunity to interact with NIH staff and established researchers in SGM health
