Use of Chimpanzees in NIH-Supported Research
Background
In response to the December 15, 2011 Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) report: Chimpanzees in Biomedical and Behavioral Research: Assessing the Necessity, the NIH Council of Councils formed the Working Group on the Use of Chimpanzees in NIH-Supported Research to advise on the implementation of the report’s findings and recommendations. The Council Working Group submitted their final report in January 2013 and the NIH then solicited public comments on the 28 recommendations contained within. The NIH anticipates providing its response to the public comments and working group's final report soon.
